BIG BREAKING: Major blast in Jammu and Kashmir, explosion inside police station in Nowgam, Srinagar, 9 people killed
Jammu & Kashmir Blast: An explosion occurred on Friday night at the Nowgam police station premises in Jammu and Kashmir when police personnel were taking samples of ammonium nitrate, an explosive material seized in Faridabad in connection with a terrorist module case. Nine people were killed and 27 injured in the incident.
Area rocked by explosions
It was around 11:20 pm. There was silence in the valleys of Jammu and Kashmir. Suddenly, the sound of several explosions one after the other in the Nowgam police station shocked the people. After the explosion, the sirens of ambulances and police vehicles started resounding in the silence of the night and the injured were taken to the hospital. 9 people were killed and 29 injured in the explosion in Nowgam, Srinagar, Kashmir. The number of casualties may increase, as 5 are seriously injured and are undergoing treatment. The explosion in Nowgam police station was caused by the same ammonium nitrate which had caused the blast in the i20 car in front of the Red Fort in Delhi.
The tailor who made the explosive cover also died.
Kashmir police officials said the blast was so powerful that identifying the victims was difficult. Many bodies remain unidentified. Several cars caught fire as a result of the explosion. The death toll is expected to rise further.
A Kashmir resident said that a local tailor was also killed in the blast at the Nowgam police station. He was tasked with making covers to conceal explosive material. He died during the explosion.
How did the blast happen in the police station?
A few days ago, a doctor was arrested in Kashmir, and on his information, approximately 2,900 kilograms of explosives were seized from Faridabad. It is suspected to be ammonium nitrate. Jammu and Kashmir Police seized 360 kilograms of explosive material from the rented residence of Dr. Muzammil Ganai in Faridabad. Ganai is one of eight people arrested so far in this terrorist module case. Police officials say that the FSL team was collecting samples of the explosive material when it exploded. The injured policemen have been taken to 92 Base Hospital for treatment.
