NEET UG 2026: NTA prepares extensively for over 22 lakh candidates, with tight security arrangements in place at 5,440 centres today
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has completed extensive preparations for the successful and fair conduct of NEET-UG 2026. Sharing information on its official social media platform, X, the NTA stated that unprecedented security and surveillance arrangements have been put in place across the country for this crucial examination, scheduled to be held on June 21st. This year, more than 2.2 million candidates will appear for the exam.
According to the NTA, the exam will be conducted at 5,440 exam centers located in 551 cities across India and 14 centers abroad. The exam will be conducted in 12 Indian languages, including English. The agency's goal is to provide a fair, safe, and convenient examination environment to all candidates.
To strengthen security, CCTV cameras have been installed in more than 95,000 examination halls across the country. A total of 138,560 CCTV cameras will provide live monitoring of examination activities at the national, state, and ministry levels. Additionally, footage from these cameras will be analyzed using artificial intelligence (AI) to quickly identify any suspicious activity.
To prevent cheating and other irregularities in the examination, 51,311 jammers have been installed. This arrangement has been made with the help of Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). NTA said that two invigilators will be deployed in each examination hall, while more than 10 officers and employees will be present at each centre. Apart from this, 38,795 frisking staff and 48,448 biometric personnel have been appointed. This time, face authentication system has also been included. Around 6,700 observers and more than 100 virtual observers have been deployed to monitor the examination process.
The services of police, paramilitary forces, the Indian Air Force, and the Postal Department have been utilized to protect confidential examination materials. The NTA stated that a nationwide mock drill was conducted on June 20th to test all arrangements. For the convenience of candidates, examination centers will provide drinking water, ORS, ambulances, seating and shade for parents, wall clocks in each room, and extra rough sheets.
The NTA has urged candidates and parents to rely only on official information. The agency has called for caution against rumors of paper leaks and other rumors circulating on social media, calling them completely baseless. It also wishes all students taking the exam the best of luck and encourages them to approach the exam with confidence.
